Lace-Trim Silk Column Dress

Once sold, the edition is closed.

The column is the oldest formal line the house works in — a single unbroken vertical, cut so the cloth does the shaping and the seaming stays out of the way. Silk shell over silk lining means the dress moves as one weight rather than two, and holds completely still when the body does, which is the entire logic of a portrait.

Stillness is the reference here. The studio portraits that inform Archive II are formal by construction: the sitter arrives dressed, takes a position, and holds it, and the photograph records a decision that was made before the shutter opened. The column dress is the garment equivalent of that arrangement — it does not require movement to be understood, and it does not perform. The lace is set as a trim at the neckline and hem rather than as an insert, finishing the edge without interrupting the vertical, in the manner of a garment where every decorative element has been made to answer to the line.
