Belted Knitted Jacquard Mini Dress

Once sold, the edition is closed.

The grid that runs through Archive II is not a print. It is knitted into the structure of the cloth on the machine, which is why it holds weight and shifts under light rather than sitting flat on the surface. Its source is a hand-painted gameboard — a square repeated until it stops being a square and becomes a field, the paint worn thin where hands returned to the same positions over years. Repetition is the whole method: a unit, stated once, then stated again until the accumulation becomes the pattern.

The belt is the second argument. A grid extended over a body will read as a field unless something interrupts it, and the belt does that work at the natural waist — dividing the pattern into an upper and lower statement rather than allowing it to run uninterrupted from shoulder to hem. This is the logic of strip-woven cloth, where narrow widths are joined edge to edge and the seam is not concealed but counted. The archive photographs that inform Archive II hold the same instinct: dress assembled from parts, each part visible as a part, the assembly itself the point.
