Drill is a twill woven tight for abrasion — the cloth of garments that had to survive being worn every day and washed every week. The cut follows from that fact rather than referencing it: square at the shoulder, no excess ease through the body, closure and seams placed where they take load.
Workwear enters the house as a method rather than as an aesthetic. Clothing built by people who needed it to last is the closest historical parallel to what Archive II is attempting — construction determined by intended lifespan rather than by season — and the reference material returns to it constantly, in market dress, in labour, in the jackets worn over everything in photographs taken decades apart. The lining is the point of departure. A true work jacket is unlined; this one is lined so it moves over knitwear without dragging, which is the detail that places it in a wardrobe rather than on a site. It softens through wear and keeps its structure, and the colour will settle rather than fade flat.
